A Guide to Empatheias
You are in the city of Verens on the floating island of Empatheias, which exists over a mostly barren world infused with negative emotions. Your emotions can affect your surroundings. These emotions will also create emotion drops, which will appear in the crystal you will find with you. Do not lose your crystal; this world will drain your emotions until you die, and the crystals prevent that. All crystals are gathered once a month for inspection and the emotion drops ultimately affect the city’s crystal, which can have positive or negative results on the land to match the majority of the emotions felt.
We are looking into ways to return to our own worlds. There is a chance that some will disappear from the island and return to their world the instant they left, but the cause is unknown. There is also a much rarer chance an otherworlder will be encased in crystal for some time; to that otherworlder it will be as if no time passes before the crystal breaks away leaving them just as they were before even if weeks have passed.
There are free apartments available, which are marked on the map pinned to the task board. You can take any apartment that isn’t already inhabited. The task board will also have jobs you can take to earn money to get by; there are all kinds of jobs, from waiting on restaurants to hunting monsters. Anyone can take them as long as they have the skills and time.
Otherworlders appear at the beginning of the month. This has been the case since the month of Penta, year 814. The cause has not yet been determined, but it is most likely connected to the Arehtei: godlike beings linked to various emotions. As of Penta year 816, we have made contact with all of the arehtei: Daimonia (associated with joy and grief), Sosyne (associated with calm and rage), Elios (associated with love and hate), Peromei (associated with hope and despair), Thras (associated with fear and courage), Piphron (associated with trust and distrust) and Aiada (associated with envy and appreciation). Our crystals are able to “align” to the Arehtei, possibly by filling them with emotions associated with that specific Arehtei. Peromei herself collected crystal amulets full of hopeful emotion drops; they may be necessary to help heal the Arehtei, who have most often appeared 'corrupted' with negative emotions. Since making contact, we have been able to cleanse many of them from this corruption.
There are still many things we do not know about this world. However, we have found some clues through the ruins of Inoman. The report on the subject can be found in the library. It is recommended you take a look, as these things may become relevant in the near future as more Arehtei appear. More recently, Thras has revealed the location of another settlement, Shaarnath, which exists on the surface despite the toxic emotions in the air. They are protected by their ability to control their emotions in a way that resembles some sort of magic, referred to as "Dunamis." We are still learning about Shaarnath and Dunamis at this time, although travel has now opened up between Shaarnath and Verens. As of Empta 816, Daimonia has revealed a city of her own, Theasthai, which we have just opened up to via the teleporters.
